Ahli President Reveals Future Strategy Amid Pitso’s Uncertain Future
Al Ahli Saudi FC president, Walid Moaz, has shed light on the club’s next move concerning the future of head coach Pitso Mosimane.
The conclusion of the 2022/23 season for Al Ahli witnessed peculiar scenes as Mosimane’s players departed from the title celebrations, while Mosimane and his technical team remained on the pitch after securing the Yelo League championship.
This peculiar situation arose due to a breakdown in communication, as Moaz later revealed that the club’s supporters had requested the Saudi Arabian giants, who had suffered relegation for the first time in their history, to refrain from celebrating the First Division title.
Amidst this backdrop, uncertainty looms over Mosimane’s future, despite his instrumental role in leading the club to promotion and securing the Yelo League title. However, the club appears to have a preference for hiring a European coach as they approach the new season.
It is understood that the club is reluctant to activate a one-year clause in Mosimane’s contract, while the South African tactician maintains that the clause was automatically activated upon securing promotion.
Moaz, who previously expressed the club’s ambitious aspirations in veiled terms, has now confirmed that a decision regarding the coach’s future will be made after conducting discussions.
“We will convene and engage in a technical discussion with the coach, exploring all the details of his vision regarding the nature of competition and the areas in which the team needs improvement,” he stated, according to Yallakora.
“We will paint a comprehensive picture that aligns with our objectives, as the club deserves the best from all of us.” The outcome for Mosimane remains uncertain, but the incident surrounding the trophy celebration suggests a breakdown in communication between the South African coach and the club’s management.
🇸🇦 @ALAHLI_FC players refused to celebrate their title win and the look on 🇿🇦 @TheRealPitso said it all.
The fans and board state it was embarrassing to be relegated and it shouldn’t be celebrated going up.
