Dondol Stars Make PSL Promotion Their Top Priority
Dondol Stars Head Coach, Vincent Rammoni, Stresses Promotion Over Nedbank Cup Triumph
Dondol Stars have enjoyed a remarkable run in the 2021/22 Nedbank Cup, but their head coach, Vincent Rammoni, has made it clear that securing promotion from the ABC Motsepe League remains their top priority.
Rammoni and his team have stunned South African football by knocking out DStv Premiership sides SuperSport United and AmaZulu in the previous two rounds. However, Rammoni insists that the players must remain humble and focused on their ultimate goal of promotion.
Speaking ahead of their quarter-final match against Orlando Pirates on the weekend, Rammoni said,
“The priority is to win the league and go to the playoffs and get promoted. That is the biggest, biggest goal that we have and are targeting. How far we are going in the Nedbank Cup, obviously if the chances are there to win it, then we’re going to take them like others have done before.”

While the Nedbank Cup run has captured the imagination of many in South African football, Rammoni remains determined that his team will not lose sight of the main goal. Dondol Stars are currently leading the Gauteng stream of the ABC Motsepe League, which also includes former Premier Soccer League giants like Jomo Cosmos and Highlands Park. If they win their stream, they will then compete for promotion at the national playoffs.
Rammoni is confident that his team has what it takes to win the league and earn promotion.
“We have a good crop of quality players,” he said. “It’s always easy for us as coaches to make changes, rest some players, bring in others because we believe that all the players that we’ve signed this season can get the job done.”
Dondol Stars’ quarter-final against Orlando Pirates promises to be a thrilling encounter. Rammoni and his team are determined to continue their fairy tale run in the Nedbank Cup, but they remain focused on the bigger picture. As Rammoni put it,
“We are not being fluke by what has happened in the Nedbank, we are still the very same team that started the 2022/23 ABC Motsepe League campaign with the very same objectives and we are relentlessly working on achieving our objectives.”
