FIFA Appoints Normalisation Committee to Oversee ZIFA

FIFA, the world governing body for football, has made the decision to appoint a four-member normalization committee to take charge of the daily operations of the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) until June 2024.

This comes after FIFA announced the lifting of the suspension on Zimbabwe and the subsequent appointment of the committee.

Normalization committees are crucial in ensuring compliance with FIFA regulations and requirements, and they play a significant role in managing football associations during transitional periods.

Composition of the Normalisation Committee

The normalization committee consists of four members, each bringing their unique expertise to the committee. Lincoln Mutasa, former chairman of Dynamos, will serve as the committee’s chairman.

The other members include Rosemary Mugadza, former coach of the Mighty Warriors, Sikhumbuzo Ndebele, former Highlanders defender and member of the British Sports Lawyers Association, and legal practitioner Nyasha Tashinga Sanyamandwe.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Normalisation Committee

According to FIFA’s statement, the normalization committee has been entrusted with several key responsibilities.

These duties include running the daily affairs of ZIFA, restructuring the ZIFA administration, establishing a collaboration agreement between the Ministry of Sport/SRC and ZIFA, reviewing and aligning the ZIFA Statutes and Electoral Code with FIFA’s requirements, and organizing and conducting elections for a new ZIFA Board.

Additionally, the committee is tasked with ensuring a smooth financial handover to the newly elected ZIFA Board.

Eligibility Check and Timeframe

While the appointed individuals will assume their duties immediately, they are subject to an eligibility check conducted by the FIFA Review Committee in accordance with FIFA Governance Regulations.

The normalization committee’s mandate will continue until all its duties have been fulfilled, with a maximum timeframe set for June 30, 2024.

Press Conference by the SRC

The Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) is scheduled to hold a press conference in Harare this morning to officially introduce the normalization committee to the public.

During the press conference, more details about the committee’s members and their roles will be provided, offering transparency and clarity regarding the way forward for ZIFA.
