Former Orlando Pirates midfielder Isaac Chansa considers Benni McCarthy as a role model for African coaches who aspire to succeed in Europe.

McCarthy currently serves as a forwards coach for Manchester United, while Steven Pienaar coaches the Ajax Under-18 team. Chansa credits these two coaches with paving the way for African coaches to break through in European football.

Benni McCarthy is currently a forwards coach at Premier League powerhouse Manchester United, where he has been widely praised for his work with England striker Marcus Rashford.

Chansa sees McCarthy and Pienaar as examples that African coaches can succeed in Europe, and their success has inspired other African coaches to aspire to similar opportunities.

Chansa is proud to see his former teammate McCarthy coaching one of the biggest teams in the world, and he believes that McCarthy and Pienaar have deservedly earned their positions due to their legendary careers in European football.

While McCarthy and Pienaar have blazed a trail for African coaches in Europe, other African coaches have also made strides overseas. Notable examples include Senegal’s Omar Daf, who is the head coach of Dijon FCO in France’s Ligue 2, and former Cameroon star Pierre Webo, who serves as an assistant coach at Turkish top-flight club Basaksehir FK.
