Kaizer Chiefs communications manager, Vina Maphosa, has provided an update on the injury sustained by head coach Arthur Zwane during the recent match at Royal Bafokeng Stadium, where fans threw objects at the players and coach.

Zwane was unable to attend the post-match press conference due to his injury, which was initially reported as being caused by an object thrown by a fan, according to MTNFC. However, Maphosa clarified that Zwane was actually injured by a shield held by a police officer who was trying to protect him as he made his way into the tunnel. The shield accidentally caused an injury to his eye.

Maphosa confirmed that Zwane is expected to recover in time to be back on the bench for Kaizer Chiefs’ final league game against Cape Town City on Saturday. He stated,

“The coach is recovering well and should be on the bench against City in our last game.”

Addressing the incident, Maphosa expressed the club’s strong condemnation of the fans who threw objects. He emphasized that such behavior goes against the principles of Kaizer Chiefs, which is a club that promotes love and peace.

Maphosa made it clear that they do not assume the perpetrators are supporters of Kaizer Chiefs and urged all fans to create a safe and welcoming environment for everyone, including children and women.

Maphosa also mentioned that the club has identified three plainclothes individuals who were responsible for throwing the objects. He stated,

“The club will take stern action if branches who were at the stadium are able to identify the perpetrators. We condemn that and repeatedly so.”

The incident at the stadium was strongly condemned by Kaizer Chiefs, and they are determined to take appropriate measures to address such acts of violence. They view this behavior as a step backward and are committed to creating a safe and enjoyable environment for all supporters.
