Jali’s Absence from Mamelodi Sundowns

The upcoming winter transfer window of the Premier Soccer League (PSL) casts uncertainty on the future of seasoned midfielder Andile Jali.

Following an alleged incident of arriving at training under the influence of alcohol at the Tshwane giants’ Chloorkop, Gauteng base, Jali has yet to return.

His teammate, Sipho Mbule, involved in the same incident, continues to play regularly under Coach Rhulani Mokwena, while Jali has been seemingly relegated to the sidelines.

The Persistent Issue of Alcohol

Since his homecoming from the Belgian side KV Oostende and joining Sundowns in 2018, Jali has reportedly struggled with an alcohol problem, gaining a reputation as a heavy drinker.

This problem led to a possible expulsion threat from Sundowns if Jali didn’t seek rehabilitation, as reported by Sunday World in 2018. Two years later, Jali and his teammate Phakamani Mahlambi faced a ban from Masandawana’s Bio-Bubble for alleged alcohol-related issues.

The Contract Dilemma and Uncertain Future

Jali’s contract with Masandawana is on the brink of expiry next month. The club, understandably wary due to Jali’s past behavior, doesn’t plan to extend the deal.

Mike Maakab, Jali’s agent, expressed his doubts about Jali continuing with Sundowns for the 2023-24 season.

Praises and Encouragements from Football Fraternity

Despite the controversies surrounding Jali, he continues to be lauded for his talent and contributions to the game.

Former Sundowns star Manqoba Ngwenya, ex-Kaizer Chiefs vice-captain Willard Katsande, and Sundowns legend Roger Feutmba all voiced their belief in Jali’s abilities, emphasizing his invaluable experience and unique skillset.

Jali’s On-Field Qualities and Contributions

Despite his age, the 33-year-old midfielder is still an invaluable player, boasting attributes like superior positional awareness, tackling, marking, interceptions, and passing skills.

His rich experience and winning mentality, honed through his time with Pirates and Sundowns, cannot be overlooked.

Potential Future Clubs for Jali

Speculation continues to mount about Jali’s next destination, with Kaizer Chiefs frequently linked to him. Stellenbosch and AmaZulu have also reportedly expressed interest in acquiring his services.

With his evident talent and experience, it’s certain that Jali will not be short of options as he navigates this uncertain phase of his career.
