Key Player Out: Who Will Step Up for Mamelodi Sundowns?
Mamelodi Sundowns will look to continue their defense of the Nedbank Cup when they face Marumo Gallants on Thursday. However, they will have to do so without midfielder Sphelele Mkhulise, who has been a regular in the team under coach Rhulani Mokwena, as he picked up an injury during last weekend‘s game against Al Ahly and has been added to the club‘s growing injury list. GOAL has predicted Masandawana‘s potential starting line–up.
The Sundowns captain, who started in the Nedbank Cup Last 32 match against Richards Bay on February 2, is likely to be recalled to the team with starting goalkeeper Ronwen Williams being given a rest.
Right Back- Thapelo Morena
Thapelo Morena, hailing from Randfontein, was brought on as a substitute to score the second goal against Al Ahly and may be given the opportunity to start in the South African Football Association Cup.
Left Back- Sifiso Ngobeni
Sifiso Ngobeni may be recalled to the team in place of Aubrey Modiba, who is due for a rest, while Terrence Mashego remains sidelined due to a long–term injury.
Center Back- Denis Mandela
The Kenya international, Denis Mandela, who was a substitute in Egypt, could be given a starting position at centre–back.
Center back- Mosa Lebusa
Mosa Lebusa, the experienced centre–back, has mostly been used in domestic cup competitions with Grant Kekana and Mothobi Mvala being chosen ahead of him.
CM- Andile Jali
Andile Jali is expected to return to the starting eleven as he has been sharing minutes with Teboho Mokoena throughout the season.
CM- Bongani Zungu
With Mkhulise out due to injury, Bongani Zungu is expected to start in the central midfield position for his third appearance of the season.
CAM- Marcelo Allende
Marcelo Allende, the 23–year–old, has solidified his spot in the starting eleven with some impressive performances and his ability to create chances could be vital in helping Downs defeat Gallants.
Right Forward- Neo Maema
Neo Maema, the two–footed attacker, could be given his 21st start of the season after coming off the bench against Al Ahly.
Left Forward- Themba Zwane
The experienced player Themba Zwane returned from an injury to start at left forward against Al Ahly and he should retain his spot in the lineup.
Center Forward- Cassius Mailula
Cassius Mailula will lead the attack as the main striker, with Peter Shalulile given a rest after scoring in their last match in Cairo.
