Mailula’s Impressive Performance Leads Mamelodi Sundowns To Victory In Caf Champions League

Cassius Mailula put on a dazzling display in the Caf Champions League match on Friday, as Mamelodi Sundowns secured a 3-1 victory over Coton Sport.

The Downs’ goals were scored by Mailula (who scored two) and Morena. Mailula has been in fine form, scoring a total of six goals in four games in the Champions League.

The win sets up an exciting encounter for Masandawana, who will now face Al Ahly.

Masandawana secured their second consecutive victory in Group B of the Caf Champions League, in a match held at the Roumde Adjia Stadium in Cameroon.

The in-form Cassius Mailula wasted no time and put Sundowns in the lead within the first 10 minutes of the game, as he capitalized on a possession error by the Cameroonian champions and scored with a powerful low shot.

The home team struggled to keep up with the unpredictable movement of Cassius Mailula, who went on to provide the assist for Thapelo Morena’s goal just a minute after scoring the opener, thereby doubling the lead for Masandawana.

However, Coach Rhulani Mokwena’s side lost their defensive concentration at the half-hour mark and was punished by 18-year-old Patient Wassou, who beat goalkeeper Ronwen Williams to score a goal for the home team.

Throughout the match, Cassius Mailula posed a constant threat to the Coton Sport defence with his sharp runs, and he secured his brace by scoring a goal just before half-time, which restored the two-goal lead for the visitors.

Coton Sport appeared rejuvenated following the half-time team talk with co-coach Ernest Agbor, but they failed to seriously test Ronwen Williams in the second half.

In the end, Mamelodi Sundowns secured a 3-1 victory, thereby continuing their strong start to their Group B campaign.

The team had previously begun their campaign with a 1-0 win over the Sudanese champions Al Hilal Omdurman, which took place in Tshwane the previous weekend.

Cassius Mailula demonstrated his status as one of the best strikers in Africa with a stunning display in Garoua.

The 21-year-old scored two impressive goals and provided an assist, bringing his total to three goals in two matches during the group stage of the 2016 African champions’ campaign.

With three goals in the qualifying rounds as well, Mailula is now the leading scorer in this season’s Champions League.

Looking at the bigger picture, Mamelodi Sundowns’ latest victory is their 18th consecutive win across all competitions, firmly placing them among the most in-form clubs on the African continent.
The Tshwane giants are currently aiming to secure their fourth consecutive win in their Champions League group and eventually clinch the title for the second time in their history.
