Mamelodi Sundowns Coach Dismisses Kaizer Chiefs-Jali Transfer Rumours

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Rhulani Mokwena has finally addressed the contract situation of experienced midfielder Andile Jali, whose current deal with Sundowns will expire in June. There has been much speculation surrounding Jali‘s future with the club, and Mokwena has finally broken his silence on the matter.

Jali has yet to sign a new contract with his current club, Masandawana, ahead of the expiration of his contract on June 30. This has led to speculation linking the 32yearold with a move to Kaizer Chiefs and his former club, Orlando Pirates.

Mike Makaab, Jali‘s agent, has expressed his displeasure with Masandawana for taking too long to conclude the players new contract. Makaab has further revealed that there is interest in the player from teams in the Premier Soccer League, as well as from abroad.

Now, without going into further detail, Mokwena described the situation astroubled,” as he worries about being misunderstood.

Mokwena, the coach of Mamelodi Sundowns, has chosen not to comment on the situation surrounding midfielder Andile Jali.

He explained to the media that he does not want to engage in the “he said, she said” discussions that have been going on. Instead, he prefers to wait for the club to make an official announcement at the appropriate time.

While Jali has been struggling to secure a spot in the Sundowns team, Teboho Mokoena has become a regular starter in central midfield. This is because the team is no longer using a double-pivot in the middle of the park.

As a result, Mothobi Mvala has been converted into a central defender. With Rivaldo Coetzee back from a long-term injury, there is even more competition in central midfield for Jali.

Despite coach Arthur Zwane of Kaizer Chiefs being known for his preference for younger players, the club could still be keeping an eye on Jali’s situation. Meanwhile, Cape Town City has reportedly expressed interest in the former KV Oostende midfielder.

Jali will likely be pushing for more game time and solid performances to improve his situation in the team. If he can deliver, Sundowns may offer him a new deal before the end of the season.
