Mamelodi Sundowns’ Rising Star: Mailula On The Radar Of Ligue 1 Clubs
Cassius Mailula’s future at Mamelodi Sundowns is uncertain due to reported interest from Ligue 1 teams. The 21-year-old forward has caught the attention of two French clubs, according to his agent. Mailula’s impressive performance in the Champions League, where he has scored six goals, has garnered attention from potential suitors in Europe.
Mailula’s agent, Karabo Mathang, has disclosed that the Mamelodi Sundowns forward is being courted by two top-flight French teams who are impressed with his outstanding performances for the South African side this season. The 21-year-old has been enjoying a remarkable breakthrough campaign, having netted 13 goals across all competitions and contributed four assists.

The 21-year-old forward has scored six goals in the competition, including a hat-trick against La Passe in the preliminary round, as well as winners against Al-Hilal and Coton Sport in the group phase.
Regarded as the next Percy Tau, Mailula showcased his abilities yet again in a recent match against Tau’s former club, Al Ahly, where he played on the wing and provided an assist for Peter Shalulile’s goal. While Sundowns’ coach Rhulani Mokwena sees him as the future of the club, it may prove difficult to retain the rising star as interest from European clubs continues to emerge.
Mailula’s agent, Mathang, confirmed that they have received interest from potential suitors in Europe, but at present, there is nothing to report.
According to Mailula’s agent, there is specific interest in the forward from France, with a few inquiries having been received from clubs in the country’s top-flight division, Ligue 1. However, the agent declined to disclose the names of the interested clubs due to the sensitivity of the situation. He did mention that Mailula’s name has been linked with more than one club in France, indicating that there is genuine interest from the country.
Mailula has established himself as Mamelodi Sundowns’ go-to player in crucial games, particularly in February, where he scored match-winning goals against Orlando Pirates, Al-Hilal, and Coton Sport. As Sundowns compete for titles in the league, Champions League, and Nedbank Cup, coach Mokwena will be relying on Mailula’s scoring prowess.
Next up for Sundowns is a Nedbank Cup last-16 encounter against Marumo Gallants on Thursday, which presents another opportunity for Mailula to enhance his burgeoning reputation.
