Onyango Shares Insights on Contract Talks with Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns goalkeeper Denis Onyango has expressed his desire to continue his stay with the reigning champions of the DStv Premiership, as his current contract approaches its end.

Onyango, who secured his record-extending 10th league title as Sundowns were crowned the 2022/23 DStv Premiership winners, has played a more supportive role to first-choice goalkeeper Ronwen Williams this season.

In an interview with iDiski Times, Onyango revealed that his representatives are currently engaged in discussions with the club regarding a new contract.

“Yes, of course, my contract is coming to an end, but we are in talks with the club to try and retain me,” Onyango stated.

He further expressed his hope that the club would choose to keep him, considering the expectations of the fans. While awaiting the club’s decision, Onyango emphasized that the negotiations are still being finalized.

Onyango also disclosed that the club has shown support for his aspirations to venture into coaching or other administrative roles in the later stages of his career.

“The club is looking at it and saying, ‘Denis, if you have the opportunity to go and become whatever you want, whether a goalkeeper coach or administrator, you’re welcome to do that’,” he added. “You know when one door closes, another opens. The club is there, the opportunity is there, and the club is really trying to help in whatever activity you want to do.”
