South African national team star Percy Tau was instrumental in Al Ahly’s dominant 4-0 win over Coton Sport of Cameroon in a CAF Group B encounter.

After a disappointing 5-2 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns last weekend, Al Ahly needed a big win to boost their chances of advancing to the knockout phase of the CAF Champions League. While their fate still hangs in the balance, Group B leaders Mamelodi Sundowns will play Al Hilal in a decisive match in Sudan on March 18.

Tau started the match and scored a goal, adding to his recent impressive performances. He has regained his place in the Bafana Bafana final squad and will feature in the team’s upcoming AFCON qualifiers against Liberia later this month.

Al Ahly have won twice, drawn once, and lost twice in the group stage phase of the competition. This dominant win over Coton Sport will undoubtedly boost their confidence, and they will hope to maintain their form as they push for a spot in the knockout phase.

Al Ahly secured a crucial 4-0 win over Coton Sport in a recent CAF Group B encounter. Mahmoud Kahraba scored a hattrick, while Percy Tau added another goal to seal the victory for the Egyptian side.

The win comes after Al Ahly suffered a disappointing 5-2 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns just days earlier. Al Ahly coach Rene Weiler had publicly called for fair play from the South African side, who had already secured their spot in the knockout phase.

Now, Al Ahly is hoping for another favor from Mamelodi Sundowns as they face Al-Hilal in a decisive match. If Sundowns win, Al Ahly will still need to beat Al-Hilal to advance to the quarterfinals of the Champions League.

As it stands, Al Ahly are placed third in Group B standings with 7 points, just two points behind second-placed Al-Hilal. Their chances of missing out on the knockout phase for the first time in years are significant, but the dominant win over Coton Sport has given them a fighting chance.
