Pitso Mosimane Shares Caf Champions League Tips With Gavin Hunt

As the Premier Soccer League (PSL) enters its final stretch, the top-two race has intensified, with SuperSport United (SSU), Orlando Pirates, Kaizer Chiefs, Cape Town City, and Richards Bay all vying for continental qualification.

Currently, Mamelodi Sundowns are on course to win a record-extending sixth PSL title, leaving the second spot as the only guaranteed way to secure participation in the Caf Champions League. At the moment, Supersport United is in a good position, with two points more than both Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs, who are tied on 37 points.

In light of this, former Sundowns coach, Pitso Mosimane, has offered to help Supersport United coach Gavin Hunt with tips for playing in the continent’s top competition. Mosimane has already expressed his confidence in SSU’s ability to secure the second spot, which would guarantee them a spot in the Caf Champions League.

In response to Mosimane’s offer, Hunt expressed his excitement, accepting the invitation to a courtesy lunch and a catch-up meeting with Mosimane. Hunt, who has experience in the Champions League, led Kaizer Chiefs to the semi-finals of the competition during the 2020/21 season, despite struggling on the domestic front.

Hunt’s departure from Kaizer Chiefs has left him eager to prove his worth to the Soweto giants. Chiefs have already expressed their interest in playing Champions League football next season, while Pirates have been clear about their intentions to return to Africa.

With Hunt and his players currently on the FIFA break, preparing to resume PSL action with a trip to Chippa United on April 1, Mosimane was recently honored as Coach of the Month in the Saudi second-tier. His team, Al Ahli, is currently in second place on the table, with just one point fewer than log leaders Al Hazm.

As the PSL season draws to a close, the competition for continental qualification is sure to intensify, with all the top contenders eager to secure their spot in the Caf Champions League. For Supersport United, the support of Mosimane may be just what they need to secure a place in the competition and make an impact on the continent.
