Sundowns Targeting Pirates’ Talented Winger in Transfer Pursuit
Mamelodi Sundowns, the reigning champions of the DStv Premiership, are reportedly showing keen interest in acquiring the services of an attacking player from Orlando Pirates for the upcoming season.
Despite having a wealth of talented players at their disposal, Sundowns has reignited their pursuit of Vincent Pule from Pirates. Pule has faced difficulties over the past two seasons, dealing with injuries and a lack of playing time, which has diminished his importance within the Buccaneers’ squad.
Nevertheless, sources suggest that Pule remains part of coach Jose Riveiro’s plans for the next season. Considering Pirates’ secured spot in the CAF Champions League, it would be sensible to retain the player for his skills and experience, as the club aims to strengthen its squad depth.
However, Pule’s priorities may be tested as both Sundowns and their cross-town rivals, SuperSport United, have reportedly shown interest in acquiring his services.

According to reports from Soccer-Laduma, the situation is such that Pirates wish to retain Pule, but both Sundowns and SuperSport United are vying for his signature. It is a 50/50 situation for all the interested teams.
The source further mentioned, “It’s either he goes on loan to SuperSport or Sundowns buys him. You know that’s football, and anything could happen.”
If Pule remains at Pirates, it is likely that he would assume a squad player role, as the club already boasts a formidable attacking line led by Monnapule Saleng. Additionally, the presence of Thembinkosi Lorch and his understudy, Relebohile Ratomo, who is expected to have an increased role next season, could further limit Pule’s opportunities. Meanwhile, Sundowns already has a surplus of options, so Pule would merely provide added depth to their squad.
At 31 years old, SuperSport United may offer Pule the best option as he would likely receive more playing time while still competing in continental competitions.
