Battle of Zimbabwe: Highlanders vs Dynamos Clash at Babourfields Stadium

On Saturday, all roads lead to Babourfields Stadium in Bulawayo as Highlanders and Dynamos face off in the latest installment of the ‘Battle of Zimbabwe’. The game is expected to attract a huge crowd, with Bosso’s last two games against defending champions FC Platinum and Chicken Inn drawing large numbers of fans.

Brito Breaks Jinxes

Highlanders coach Baltemar Brito has had success since taking over from Mandla ‘Lulu’ Mpofu in the Bosso dugout last year. He has broken two jinxes that had plagued Highlanders before his arrival. The team had gone 32 games without a win away from home in the league, and for nine years, they could not beat FC Platinum in the league. But Brito has broken both jinxes, much to the delight of the Bosso faithful.

DeMbare Struggles

Dynamos have not beaten Highlanders in the league since 2015, and the Bosso fans want that record to stay intact. DeMbare started the 2023 season promisingly, beating Hwange and thumping Premiership debutants Sheasham 4-0. However, they failed to win their last two games against Simba Bhora and Cranborne Bullets. DeMbare coach Herbert ‘Jompano’ Maruwa is feeling no pressure despite the lack of recent victories. He is optimistic that his team can come away with a positive result.

Mukamba to Add Impetus

Maruwa will be looking to crowd favorite Denver Mukamba to add the much-needed impetus to the DeMbare attack. Mukamba made his first start against the Bullets and put on a decent show before fizzling out later in the second half. Maruwa will also be relying on his defense, led by captain Frank Makarati, who has yet to concede a goal this season.

Highlanders’ Key Players

For Highlanders, reigning Soccer Star of the Year finalist Devine Mhindirira will be key in midfield, and so will striker Lynoth Chikuhwa upfront.

The stage is set for an exciting ‘Battle of Zimbabwe’ at Babourfields Stadium this Saturday. With both teams looking for a win, it promises to be a highly contested match. The Bosso fans will be hoping to maintain their long-standing record against DeMbare, while Maruwa and his team will be aiming to break it.
