Transfer Update: Tendayi Darikwa Set to Join a New Club

Tendayi Darikwa, the Zimbabwean defender, is reportedly on the verge of securing a move to one of Europe’s top-flight clubs. The player is currently a free agent following the expiration of his contract with English side Wigan Athletic.

According to reports from the Cyprus Times, Darikwa has reached an agreement with Apollonas, a team competing in the Cypriot First Division, which is the top-tier league in Cyprus. Apollonas has an impressive track record, having won the championship title on four occasions.

If the transfer goes through, it will mark Darikwa’s first experience playing for a club outside of England. The 31-year-old began his professional career at Chesterfield before making moves to Burnley and Nottingham Forest. He subsequently joined Wigan Athletic, where he served as the team’s captain until his departure was confirmed earlier this month.

In addition to his club career, Darikwa has also represented the Zimbabwe national team, earning caps for the Warriors. Throughout his journey, the defender had brief loan spells at Barrow and Hinckley United.

Darikwa’s potential move to Apollonas in Cyprus presents an exciting new chapter in his career. The opportunity to compete in a different league and adapt to a new footballing environment will undoubtedly provide fresh challenges and opportunities for the talented defender.
