Join the Movement: UNIDO’s 2023 Global Call on Clean Energy Innovations for Industrial Sustainability
The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) is launching its Global Call 2023, in collaboration with UNIDO ITPO Beijing, to seek proposals for innovative clean, and smart energy solutions that contribute to inclusive and sustainable industrial development.
The call invites multinational corporations, small and medium-sized enterprises, startups, and technology innovation labs to submit their technological advancements aimed at tackling the global energy crisis and mitigating climate change.
Background: Addressing the Energy Crisis
With global energy demand projected to grow by 0.8% annually until 2030, the world is confronting a severe energy crisis.
UNIDO’s “Industrial Development Report 2022” emphasizes the urgency of transitioning to green energy, scaling investments in energy switching, adopting circular economy practices, and providing global access to green technologies.
The shift towards clean energy is essential as fossil fuels’ share in the global energy mix decreases, and clean energy electricity supply must double by 2030 to limit the rise in global temperatures.
UNIDO Global Call: A History of Impact
The UNIDO Global Call was first launched in 2020 by the UNIDO Investment and Technology Promotion Office (ITPO) in Rome, Italy.
Since then, ITPO Bonn in 2021 and Shanghai in 2022 have carried the torch, attracting over 2,000 participants from 108 countries over three years.
Now, the Global Call 2023, spearheaded by UNIDO ITPO Beijing, is set to gather cutting-edge solutions in clean and smart energy to foster inclusive and sustainable industrial development.
