Zakhele Lepasa Returns to Orlando Pirates
South Africa international forward Zakhele Lepasa has announced his return to Orlando Pirates after a brief loan spell with SuperSport United.
Lepasa, who struggled for game time during the 2022/23 Premier Soccer League season, joined SuperSport in search of more opportunities on the field.
However, the majority of his 19 league appearances came from the bench. Despite the limited playing time at his parent club, Lepasa impressed when given the chance to represent Bafana Bafana under coach Hugo Broos.
Now, as the 2023/24 season approaches, Lepasa has declared his comeback to Orlando Pirates, joining them for pre-season preparations.
This decision comes at a crucial time, as the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) is on the horizon, and Lepasa must secure regular playing time to secure a spot in the final Bafana Bafana squad.
Orlando Pirates, aiming to challenge Mamelodi Sundowns for the league title and having qualified for the CAF Champions League, is determined to strengthen their squad.
In light of their ambitions, the club made it clear that they wanted to retain Lepasa and rejected a potential move to Sweden. It appears that Pirates sees a significant role for him in their attacking line.
Looking ahead, Lepasa is eager to utilize the pre-season period to showcase his capabilities and prove himself as a key player in the Orlando Pirates’ lineup.
With the opportunity to lead the team’s attacking force, Lepasa aims to make a lasting impact and contribute to the team’s success in the upcoming season.
