Zungu Speaks Out On Mngqithi To Amazulu Rumors

AmaZulu FC president Sandile Zungu has addressed the recent rumors linking Mamelodi Sundowns assistant coach Manqoba Mngqithi with a move back to Durban. Mngqithi joined Sundowns in 2014 and has been a successful assistant to coach Pitso Mosimane and later, Rulani Mokwena.

However, the coach’s future with the DStv Premiership Champions is in doubt after he was demoted earlier this season, and his contract is set to expire in June.

Zungu has praised Mngqithi for his past contributions to AmaZulu FC but emphasized that he is currently contracted to Sundowns, and they need to respect that fact. He stated that the club’s focus is on current interim coach Ayanda Dlamini, who has been tasked with proving his worthiness for a permanent position.

Zungu expressed that the club values Dlamini and his assistant, Sboniso Vilakazi and that they have not approached any other coaches for the permanent job.

He wants Dlamini to use this time to demonstrate his capabilities to the club’s management and make a compelling case for being the next coach.

Mngqithi’s success at Sundowns and previous achievements at AmaZulu FC have undoubtedly made him an attractive candidate for many clubs in South Africa’s top flight. However, Zungu’s comments suggest that the club’s priority is to focus on their current interim coach and consider their options before making any decisions on who should be the next coach.
